News from the working groups

Working group meetings January 18-21, 2011 in Weert
The working groups met at the TRESPA premises and worked out road maps for each of them for the next years.
After a readjustment process in 2010 deficits in terms of sustainability in laboratories have been verified and led to dedicated strategic adjustments. At the end recommendations and hints to the practice shall be gained and published. Most working groups shall give first results to the public at the congress in Leuven at least for partial results.
Lab ventilation is in the focus still. The results of experiments in regard of lab ventilation in the test houses of some members are verified with the help of a simulative CFD soft ware by other members and show how ventilation works in case of emitting hazardous gas substances. It clearly appeared that this objective is worth to take care of. EGNATON is negotiating with some European universities to establish a study.
Furthermore the working group “Energy Consumption” works on an EGNATON-index that shall show the energy efficiency of labs clearly and understandable.
Working groups 2 and 5 are merged under the name „Future Lab architecture – Building engineering services“. They will work together with universities either and will place master studies.
The group “Life Cycle Cost” works on an EGNATON bench marking system.
A kick-off meeting was held by wg “Material Science”. Here ecological figures in terms of certification systems will be determined. Members will get access to the figures once they are available.
